I'm not afraid to say it. The Big 12 is better than the SEC!!!!!

Yea that's right. And I've got numbers to back it up. The SEC is getting all the pub and deservedly so for it's a tough competitive conference but check out some of the early season Big 12 numbers.

  • The top 6 teams (Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas and Oklahoma St) are 23-1 so far.
  • The only loss was Kansas losing at the gun at South Florida in a game that they really should've won.
  • The three best QB's in the country (Chase Daniel, Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy) play in the Big 12.

Now I realize the SEC started their conference schedule already and that's why Auburn, Florida and Georgia already have losses. But, I believe while the depth of the SEC with teams like Ole Miss, Kentucky and South Carolina might be superior to that of the Big 12, I'll take those six teams I mentioned over the SEC's top 6. Better offense, better offensive lines and better QB's.

Whatever you're smoking Drebin, I'd love some of it. The only team in the Big 12 that could possibly survive the hell that is the SEC is Oklahoma. Texas Tech, Kansas and Oklahoma St would be .500 teams in conference in the SEC. Georgia, Florida and Auburn are excellent teams. In fact, at the end of the season I think all three of those teams will be better than LSU who already won at Auburn.

Match up the Top 6 teams, here's what you get.

1. Oklahoma vs LSU: Sure Bradford is way better than Hatch but the Tigers defense would get after the Sooners and Les Miles would figure something out to make this competitive.
WINNER: I'll give it to Oklahoma but not by much.

2. Missouri vs Alabama: Nick Saban would make mince meat of Chase Daniel and Mizzou.
WINNER: Bama

3. Texas vs Georgia: The Dawgs have better overall skill position players. The Horns will be exposed against Oklahoma on October 11.
WINNER: Georgia

4. Texas Tech vs Florida: As much as I love Mike Leach and his offense, I don't think they could matchup with the Gators.
WINNER: Florida

5. Kansas vs Auburn: Much of the same as the TT-Florida game. The Jayhawks are a nice story but they don't belong on the same field as Auburn.
WINNER: Auburn

6. Oklahoma St vs Vanderbilt: Who cares but Vandy is more than equipped to beat the overrated Cowboys.
WINNER: Vandy

5-1 SEC. End of the story.

Re: I'm not afraid to say it. The Big 12 is better than the SEC!!!!!
That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever read. First of all, the rankings of the teams is a waste of time given that the Big 12 hasn't started conference play yet. Second of all, why couldn't TT beat Florida or Kansas beat Auburn. Auburn lost to the same USF team that Kansas did this season last year. And that game was at Auburn. The SEC has a superiority complex going that's annoying. I personally don't think LSU, Auburn, Florida or Georgia is better than Texas, Oklahoma or Missouri. I do think Bama is really good but the rest of the SEC lacks the QB play of the Big 12.

I'd rank the top 4 SEC and the top 4 Big 12 like this.

1. Oklahoma
2. Missouri
3. Alabama
4. Texas
5. LSU
6. Texas Tech
7. Florida
8. Auburn

Re: I'm not afraid to say it. The Big 12 is better than the SEC!!!!!
Since everyone's ranking, who would be the #3 conference behind the SEC and PAC-10? Probably the Mountain West. With BYU, Utah and TCU they have to be in that spot. The Big 10, Big East and PAC-10 are lame. If Penn St is the best in the Big 10 and USF is the best in the Big East, those conferences just don't compare. I know USC is USC but on neutral field, I think BYU and Utah could play with SC.

Re: I'm not afraid to say it. The Big 12 is better than the SEC!!!!!

I'm not sure why everyone in the SEC thinks they have such a high claim to being 'far and away' the best conference in football. Because Lee Corso says so? As an outsider to both the Big 12 and the SEC, I think it's valid to argue that they're both strong and we still have alot to learn about each of them. But this belief that noone can hang with the SEC is ludicrous.

Alabama looks strong to this point and handed it to Georgia. But maybe Georgia isn't as good as everyone thought? A 3-2 Ole Miss team beat Florida, which is all I need to see to think they were well overrated. Auburn is struggling in general, yet LSU barely beat them. If the top 4-6 teams in the SEC were blowing out all the competition except each other, I'd maybe believe the argument, but that's not the case!

In fact, you could make that argument for the Big 12 teams, who have all looked strong on the field. The SEC gets the ESPN hype, but you have to play the games! Good athletes? Yes. But it's pretty obvious to me that they didn't deserve to have 3 of the top 5 teams in the country.

Re: I'm not afraid to say it. The Big 12 is better than the SEC!!!!!

Tennessee lost to UCLA who's been pretty pathetic since.

Florida just had a bad loss. Georgia got knocked in the mouth by an impressive Bama squad. Auburn has a great defense, but their offense is terrible. LSU hasn't looked dominant.

The SEC is not invincible. These teams are human. Tebow is not superman otherwise they never would have lost to Ole Miss

The conference play will make this argument even more difficult as the teams records will falter. Ask this same question 3 weeks from now and I think that you have a better feel for the conferences. Since the Big 12 has yet to start knocking each other off and putting numbers in the loss column it is a little premature to crown them king of the conferences.

Those rankings you have there seem very close to the ones I have, but I have not thought bout it much but the SEC is overrated and the B12 this year is shining bright. This year the B12 is the best conference in college football (no doubt).

So if Nebraska knocks off Missouri on Saturday is that good or bad for the Big 12?

Let me tell ya that Nebraska isn't beating Missouri. You can quote me all the stats about the fact that they never win there blah blah but it won't happen. If it did though, it would be bad for the Big 12. It would make Missouri look bad and the overall conference look mediocre.
