Didn't anyone tell Pat Summitt to stay away from raccoons?
WHAT DID SHE CHASE IT AWAY WITH? WAS SHE SWINGING SOMETHING? WEIRD STORY.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Sometimes even coaches have to undergo offseason surgery.
Tennessee Lady Volunteers coach Pat Summitt underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on her right shoulder Thursday morning. The team's orthopedists performed the surgery.
Tennessee associate athletics director for sports medicine Jenny Moshak says the surgery was to repair recurring instability problems.
The winningest basketball coach in NCAA history has had problems with her shoulder ever since dislocating it while chasing away a raccoon poised to attack her Labrador on March 5, just days before the Southeastern Conference tournament.
Moshak says Summitt is doing well and will begin rehabbing her shoulder in about a week.
The Lady Vols begin practice on Oct. 17 and open the 2008-09 season against San Francisco on Nov. 15.
