Don't sleep on TCU in the Mountain West.

Everyone is assuming Utah and BYU will be playing for the conference crown on Nov 22. TCU probably will have something to say about that when the Cougars come to Fort Worth on Oct 16. The Horned Frogs will be toughened up by their earlier visit to Norman to play Oklahoma. Also, when TCU and Utah play, it'll be on a Thursday night which means only five days rest for both teams. TCU gets UNLV before the Utah game while the Utes have to go play a solid New Mexico team.

Gary Patterson is one of the brightest minds in the country and he'll have the defense ready to once again be one of the most physical in the nation.

The whole Mountain West is pretty competitive. New Mexico and Air Force both won 9 games last season and should be solid again. If Wyoming could stop somebody they can get into a bowl as well. They were 4-1 last year before their season went into the tank. I still think BYU is the team to beat. Mendenhall is an excellent coach (as is Gary Patterson) and Max Hall is by far the best QB in the league. That's 75% of the battle right there.

TCU will get beat up by Oklahoma and will not be at it's best at Utah. Look for BYU to edge out the rest of the teams by a 2 win margin for the conference.

Utah will beat TCU and go on to take the Mountian West Conference. BYU doesn't have the playmakers or the depth to compete with Utah.

TCU will play Oklahoma very tough this weekend. They won't stop the Sooners but they'll slow them enough to keep it tight in the fourth quarter. With the exception of USC, I think BYU, Utah and TCU can play with anyone in the country. Maybe not beat them but at least be competitive.
