How weak is the ACC? They only have one team in the Top 20 of SI's poll and Clemson is vastly overrated. I loved when fans were complaining that the Big East didn't deserve their BCS slot. Well, I don't think it's far-fetched to suggest that the Big East is now a better football conference than the ACC. Check it out.

1. West Virginia > Clemson
2. Virginia Tech > Pitt
3. South Florida > Wake Forest
4. Cincinnati > Boston College
5. UConn = Florida St
6. Rutgers > North Carolina
7. Louisville > Miami
8. Syracuse stinks.

The Coastal Division in the ACC is horrible. There are some prestigious programs in this league that are way down right now.

Re: SI preseason Top 60 for 2008
I think the Big 12 is the deepest conference this season, but I wonder if Missouri, Texas Tech and Kansas are a little overrated this season. Mizzou is 4th, TT 8th and Kansas 15th in the SI poll. I still think Oklahoma is the class of the league. All three teams could be taking on water by the middle of September.

  • Kansas has to go to Tampa and play USF on Sept 12.
  • Missouri has their opener against a dangerous Illinois team on a neutral site in Kansas City.
  • Texas Tech will play at Nevada in early September. It's a game they should win but Nevada went to a bowl game last season can put up points so it should be a shootout.

I'll check back with these three Big 12 schools at the end of September.

Kansas certainly had a cakewalk last season. They didn't play Texas, Oklahoma or Texas Tech en route to their huge year. They'll come back down to earth in 2008.
