The Seton Hill University Griffin's showed toughness and resiliancy on the road this past week as they beat Glenville State by the score of 34-29. Griffin quarterback David Wess threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns, while running back Antwarn Jones rushed for 155 yards on 23 carries. In total, the Griffins posted an impressive 478 yards of total offense.

The game was tied at 28 with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Derrick Alexander then made sure to give the Griffins a short field to work with, as he returned a kickoff for 39 yards. The Griffins then drove 37 yards to the game winning score to seal the victory.

Next, the Griffins take on Shepard, former West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) champions, in their homecoming game, this Saturday, September 27th at 4:00 p.m.

Seton Hill University versus Walsh Game Stats
The Griffins looked solid in their win against Walsh on Saturday September 13th, 2008. Seton Hill running back Antwarn Jones rushed for 153 yars on 26 carries, while Griffin wideout Sammy Tranks returned a punt 89 yards for a score. The Cavs pulled to within two points in the middle of the fourth quarter, but the Griffin defense dug in and blocked a last second field goal by the Cavs, sealing the win.

As a side note, the Griffin defense held the Cavs to just 31 yards passing, and no passing play longer than nine yards.

Next week, the Griffins open conference play when they travel to Glenville State University to take on the Pioneers. This should prove to be a tough matchup for the Griffins, because the Pioneers just beat Shepard University, the team who is favored to win the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) title. Anything can happen, especially with the Griffins hot start. Who knows? Maybe the Griffins will continue their dominance and keep their winning streak alive.

Seton Hill University is now 3-0 in football action as they edged Walsh University 23-21. The Griffins tied their number of wins from last season with this most recent victory, and they are off to their best start in the program's short history. The Griffins open up their conference schedule next week when they travel to Glenville State University.

Stats from the Seton Hill versus Walsh game coming later in the day, stay posted.

Griffins off to a Hot Start
The Seton Hill University (SHU) Griffins enter their fourth season of existance with high hopes. New head coach Joel Dolinski takes over the position after being the offensive coordinator, and so far, Dolinski's position change has not gone unnoticed.

In their first week of action, the Griffins faced NCAA Division II powerhouse Slippery Rock. Down 17-13 at the half, the Griffins came out of the locker room after halftime with renewed vigor, and by the end of the game, the Griffins had shocked "the Rock" 27-20, in a huge Div. II upset.

SHU's hot start continued on September 6th at Geneva. The Griffins scored all of their 27 points in the first half on two Antwarn Jones rushing TD's as well as a Sammy Tranks 75 yard kickoff return.

The Griffins have one more non-conference game next week at Walsh (Ohio). From there until the end of the regular season, the Griffins play conference opponents from the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC).

The Griffins seem to have a new sense of pride and duty this season that SHU fans have not seen in the previous three seasons of the programs existance. First, and most noticable, is the Griffins dynamic turnaround from last season by posting a 2-0 record this early in the season. Second, is a new confidence. Homecoming games are usually scheduled so that the home team can beat the visiting opponent, and usually that's what happens. It's a great night for everyone involved and the fans leave the game happy and psyched about the team's win.

This year, the Griffins have Shepard on their schedule as their homecoming game. Yes, that Shepard. The same Shepard that has the most votes to win the WVIAC title this year. Needless to say that the Griffins have had their confidence boosted a bit, especially with two wins now under their belt. The key for the Griffins is not to overlook any opponent, because they know that any opponent can beat them. Nevertheless, a 2-0 start is a great way to kick off a new season. A season in which the Griffins are trying to post their first ever winning record.
