WICHITA - Melissa Ortiz has been named the Heartland Conference Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week for the week of Sept. 6-12, the Conference announced Wednesday.

Ortiz finished fourth at the Friends Invitational on Sept. 11 at Lake Afton near Goddard, Kan., with a 5K time of 19:14, and was the top NCAA Div. II runner in the race. She helped lead the Jets to a sixth place finish in the 11-team event.

This is the second-consecutive Heartland Conference Runner-of-the-Week honor for Ortiz. This week she shared the honor with Texas-Permian Basin's Ariel Renteria, who finished fourth in the West Texas A&M Invitational.
